The seductive hangar shape of the Aeronautics Cultural Centre houses a permanent air transport exhibition, a restoration workshop, a library, conference rooms and exhibition halls. It is located close to the Prat de Llobregat airport, making it an ideal meeting point for aeronautical science professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The hanger’s metal structure is covered on three sides with cast stone panels in different shades of black, set on two offset planes that create a relief with an irregular rhythm. The north-west and south-east walls are interrupted, rising off the ground in an expressive opening gesture that provides free access to the hanger. This glazed ground floor plane allows visitors to view the museum exhibitions from the outside as well.
The project was designed in 2008 and 2009 by architects Sergi Gòdia, Berta Barrio and Eloi Juvillà in conjunction with Escofet.
