Rubí, Spain
The Rubí Central Library project covers the integrated renovation of the former BJC building for its new purpose as a library and Civic Centre. All the outer walls are to be demolished and replaced with a white pre-cast lattice.
The three facades are resolved with a breakdown of the three modules and their respective variations, optimising the lattice production process with just three moulds. The building’s simple expressive language generates a continuous, lightweight skin that is permeable to light.
The project was designed in 2008 and 2009 by architects Pau Sierra and Màrius Quintana in conjunction with Escofet.
