Isozaki’s work is renowned worldwide for its ability to blend Eastern and Western styles in an intuitive search for spatial meanings that transform structure into a tool that connects reality and dreams when viewed from different angles.
In 1906, Barcelona City Council ran a tender, which Escofet won, to standardise the designs of its “panots”, the paving stones that have fundamentally shaped the image of Barcelona's streets. One hundred and fifteen years later, through the BIT Habitat Foundation, it is launching a new challenge: “Rethinking the panot for the 21st century” with the aim of making it more sustainable, while keeping its iconic design intact.
Our author Emilio Tuñón has won the 2022 National Architecture Prize awarded by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. We’ve worked with him on the design of two landscape elements and the construction of one of his buildings.
