A surface of clear lines rests over two columns that mark out the space. Gen, with its simple volumes and curves, is conceived as a flexible system that provides for the construction of benches and tables, generating a melody of different heights and positions within the space. Such versatility brings great potential to its installation in any type of environment, public or private, interior or exterior.
It emerged out of an idea to design furniture for a new corporate facility. The project not only installed Gen furniture sets in the outdoor area, patios and entrances, they were also put in the common spaces and main lobby inside the building. The name makes reference to that part of the DNA which, much like the product, is made up of an aggregation of different primary components in the form of a chain.
The system can build various possibilities based on the union of its components. With a Ø50 cm cylindrical support of moulded concrete and 2 m long slab just 8 cm thick, it is possible to create a relaxing bench, tall tables well-suited for team work or having a coffee break, and aggregations of both cases in linear format or in zigzag. The light weight and parts-based installation system make them ideal for interiors.
The support and slab are made of reinforced concrete and pickling finish, available in the standard Escofet colour chart. The top surface of the slab has a polished finish. Gen is delivered with instructions for the “on-site” assembly of its components. Easy to handle with slings, the supports are fixed to the ground with stainless-steel bolts in holes previously drilled in the pavement and filled with epoxy resin or heavy mortar. The slab is attached with two stainless steel countersunk screws flush to the top surface of the bench or table.
