The refurbishment of Campa de Basarrate in Bilbao incorporates recycled concrete as one of its main strategies to modernise the urban landscape, forge an identity and ensure the furniture meets the environmental requirements of sustainable building. To do so, Eco-Grey concrete was selected, a formulation whose production process incorporates recycled raw materials. Boxland modular benches were installed for the seating area and distribution of the landscaped areas, and to give visibility to the choice of material, the acronym ECO has been set in low relief, which helps to convey to the general public the benefits of the ecological concrete that furnishes the new square.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the project is notable for having extended the seating area with the Kanji model of accessible, ergonomic benches, creating a unique open space without barriers or separations, suitable for all ages and capabilities.
