Cruz y Ortiz

Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz are two architects who have been able to open up new paths towards a universal sensibility. Both were born in Seville, Spain in 1948, and began to collaborate together on a professional level in 1971, the year they graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture. Honorary professors at Seville University, they have also given classes at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Navarra University School of Architecture, Columbia University Graduate School of Design, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Cornell University Department of Architecture and Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) en Zürich.
Their projects include housing, museums, libraries, transport stations, sports stadiums, office buildings and institutional facilities built in many parts of the world.

In 1990, architects Cruz-Ortiz produced Abril, their first industrial design for Escofet, which was then complemented with Mayo and some time later, in 1999, Junio and Mayo Circular. This collection of benches is part of a new generation of neutral, abstract elements for universal usage which have ultimately become a basic vocabulary for the construction of a hitherto unknown language in streetscape operations.
