Tactical urban planning Grand Laus 2023

The visual system for Barcelona City Council's tactical urban planning interventions designed by Arauna Studio has been awarded the Grand Laus 2023.

The graphic code is based on the adaptation of the panot, the iconic Barcelona paving tile developed by Escofet in 1906, using the language of the stencil to transform it into a flexible system capable of adopting different shapes according to the diversity of the urban space.

According to the panel of judges, the project is conceived as an open source toolbox, interpretable by the council's teams in charge of executing the different actions in traffic-calmed streets and pedestrian environments. This system provides, on the one hand, an easily recognisable code that facilitates the use of urban space and, on the other hand, humanises asphalted areas.
