Escofet has provided the overall project with this unique, made-to-measure street furniture. Its modern identity has a powerful bond with Millennium Square, and by extension with Valladolid city as a whole. This new street furniture and its variable combinations can also be used in other public spaces in the city, projecting an image of continuity in the streetscape.
The purpose is to design contextual street furniture for the Millennium Square landscape, creating a highly adaptable, flexible system that provides seating opportunities for all. To create an optimal shape that matches the technical characteristics and multiple uses of the overall project and its geometry (the hexagons of the ETFE pavilion cushions, an artificial topography shaped by the inclined planes of the embankments, the continuity of the land, etc.) To design extremely resistant street furniture with a single mould that rests freely on the pavement in this square, permitting multiple combinations of modules.
In this way we manage to create a free combination of modular components that mark the entrance to the square and microspaces for waiting; to collaborate in the encounter between the pavilion and the square, breaking up its geometry in contact with the pavement and in the process, creating a fractured boundary in continuity with the inclined planes; to treat the boundary between the gardens and the square, inserting seats for the public and identifying the pavilion entrances and exits.
